Clergy

Lorraine Ljunggren

The clergy at St. Mark's are:
  • Rector
    • Lorraine Ljunggren  Priest.
Lorraine's ministry as our rector began in January of 1999. She came to us from the Diocese of Western North Carolina where she was rector of a parish in the foothills for seven years.
Prior to that Lorraine served her diaconate at Kanuga Conference Center (can you imagine living at Kanuga for six months?) where she was also ordained priest on January 4, 1992. Lorraine is married to an Episcopal priest, the Rev. Jim Melnyk. Lorraine and Jim co-pastored St. Mark's from March 1, 2000, until this past December of 2010 when Jim accepted a call to another parish in our Diocese.
They have a son, Jake Melnyk, who is a grad student at UNCW and who is also active in Episcopal church ministries. In addition to serving as a busy solo-rector, Lorraine is involved in Diocesan ministries. She is a member of the Standing Committee, the Diocesan Liturgy Commission, and just completed six years as a Trustee of the Diocese. Lorraine is a four-time Deputy to General Convention, having served most recently in 2009 in Anaheim, CA, where she also was a member of the Prayer Book & Liturgy Committee.
She is also active and visible in justice ministries here in the capital city of Raleigh. Lorraine and Jim love the beaches and the mountains of North Carolina and, of course, visiting son Jake whenever possible.

  • Resident Clergy
    • John Wall  Priest.
John serves as a non-stipendiary resident clergyperson at St. Mark's and has done so throughout his ordained ministry. John is our first go-to-priest when we need a supply priest. We are also blessed to have him serve regularly during the Holy Eucharist.
John is Professor of English at North Carolina State University here in Raleigh and is a marvelous photographer as well.
