From the Rector – Extended Suspension of Services

18 March 2020

To: The Community of St. Mark’s:

My dear friends,

I’m writing to inform you that the recent suspension of worship gatherings and church activities due to the threat of COVID-19 Coronavirus has now been extended through May 17.

You can read the latest statement of Bishops Sam Rodman and Anne Hodges-Copple here:

I know this news greets you with sadness as so much of our life together has revolved around worship of the gathered community, warm hugs and handshakes, and the breaking of bread.

Undoubtedly, we, at least temporarily, will have to live into a new expression of what it means to be Church.  Our concepts of connection, shared learning and conversation will be both challenged and expanded. But together we will continue to be the Episcopal Community of St. Mark’s in the heart of Wilder’s Grove.  And in the coming days, I will be in communication with you to offer thoughts, suggestions and practices as to how we further our witness of Jesus Christ to each other and to our neighbors.

Finally, I know you will have numerous questions over the next few weeks.  Please know that your questions will be answered in a timely manner and with the best possible response given what we know at the time.

For now, receive God’s promise of hope, presence and abundant mercy.

Ever yours in Christ,

The Rev. Tyrone Fowlkes, Rector

St. Mark’s Raleigh
