Rev. Tyrone Fowlkes letter to St. Mark’s, June 24, 2017

24 June 2017

To the Parish Community of St. Mark’s, Raleigh:

Dear Friends in Christ,

I am grateful for the trust that your Vestry and the Diocese of North Carolina has placed in me and I look forward to a new chapter of mission and ministry as Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

This is an exciting time to be in the Church. And I believe that we are at our best when we can hold together a deep spirituality and a willingness to engage the social conditions surrounding us. Raleigh as well as the State of North Carolina, faces many challenges. It is my prayer that our response to these challenges will be one of vision, passion, and justice. I hope that we can draw from the deep wells of faith, culture, and civic life that can orient new and fresh understandings of how we form community and create the conditions for human flourishing.

I look forward to sharing in this endeavor with you. And I accept your call to leadership in nurturing the sacred work before us.

Ever yours in Christ,

The Rev. Tyrone Fowlkes
