Bishop Peter Lee preaches June 25 at single service

When Bishop Peter Lee visits St Mark’s on Sunday, June 25, we will have a combined service at 9:30 am.

After the service Bishop Lee will hold a question and answer session, to be followed by a reception in our Community Life Center.

Lee, a former newspaper reporter, was ordained priest in 1968. He served as rector at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill from 1971 to 1984, until his election in 1984 as Bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Virginia.

Following his 25-year tenure in Virginia, Bishop Lee stayed active, serving as interim dean of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco; General Theological Seminary, New York; and the American Cathedral in Paris. He was most recently in North Carolina serving as bishop provisional of the Diocese of East Carolina prior to the election of current bishop the Rt. Rev. Robert Skirving.

Lee has also served the wider church in several leadership roles throughout his career. Among the positions held were chair of the Church Pension Fund board, trustee of Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, 17 years as chair of the board of trustees for Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, and board member for the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
